Captain
As a captain at Pirate Taxi, you’re a vital part of the operation. Your top priority is passenger safety and you are entrusted with the command and control the company’s most important asset. Captains are also expected to engage passengers, make conversation, offer suggestions for fun things to do on the Islands and ensure passengers have a great Pirate experience
Key attributes include:
- Punctuality: Being on time is a big part of how we stay reliable and professional.
- Safe Operation and Navigation: Ensure safe operation of the vessel at all times,
- Loading Assistance: Help dock staff load bikes, strollers, and luggage when needed.
- Customer Interaction: Be friendly, courteous, and informative. Offer brief insights about the islands or landmarks when time allows.
- Vessel Maintenance: Perform pre-trip checks and basic inspections of your boat. Report any mechanical issues or damage
- Keep your boat clean and presentable at all times
- Taking Payment from Customers: On weekends and busy weekdays, you may be asked to collect money from customers before they board or when they return to our dock from the Island.
We are looking for people to work as captains who hustle, have great energy and enthusiasm, who are team players and who take initiative!
Captains are required to have or obtain, at your own expense, a Transport Canada Small Vessel Operators Permit (SVOP). Prior experience driving boats (power or sail) is helpful but not necessary, We provide paid training on the safe handling of our pontoon boats. Several SVOP courses are offered in the GTA area in the spring and summer. We can help you find a course.
This is a seasonal, summer job starting in April (weather dependent) through October, but we are flexible according to your availability. This is an ideal student summer job.
You must be able to read and write English and be legally able to work in Canada.
Weekends are busiest so preference will be given to applicants who are available to work weekends, in addition to weekdays. A regular week is 40 hours, 5 of the 7 days.
